Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix in the softened butter until the mixture is crumbly.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, thoroughly mixing after each addition.
  • Incorporate the milk and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth.
  • Divide the batter evenly between two bowls.
  • Stir in the red food coloring and cocoa powder in one bowl until the batter is red.
  • Prepare a muffin pan with paper liners.
  • Fill each paper liner 1/3 full with the red batter using a spoon.
  • Then, spoon the white batter over the red batter until the paper liner is two-thirds full.
  • Repeat with the remaining paper liners.
  • Bake the cupcakes for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow cupcakes to cool for 5 minutes in the pan before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
